The Effects Of Consumerism
Consumerism has taken over a lot of people's lives due to the internet and the need to follow trends. Society will buy things that they don't need because of a need to fit in, due to this fact when the trends eventually die out or become 'cringe' they will all eventually be thrown out and end up in landfills which pollute the oceans and slowly kill the planet and the wildlife that lives on it.
The Joys Of Consumerism
A lot of people find happiness in spending their money on things that they don't need, a big influence on this is people on social media who will make a video on something that they like which would then make other people buy it and brands to sell similar products leading to a lot of people owning useless things which just end up in the bin once it's not a trend anymore. More and more land is being taken up by landfill now days and a lot of clothes from fast fashion industries like SHEIN and H&M are making their 'trendy clothes' from 100% polyester sending fumes into the atmosphere just to make them.
Nowadays instead of buying things that are actually useful or 'trends' from the actual original brand it came from people are buying from well known places that have bad reputations for being unethical or bad for the environment just because something is cheaper there but wont last as long due to it being made with cheaper materials which break easier than what the more expensive brands are using. Most products from these type of bards are ending up in our oceans and ending up in a completely different country.
